The first project with Railpuck was realized about six months ago in Den Bosch. And now the train station in Apeldoorn also has Railpuck fixtures, says Broekhuis. “The interest from the market is enormous. Both nationally and internationally. And that is not surprising, because the advantages of Railpuck are great. For example, it is possible to make smart circuits. A timer or light sensor in this case ensures that the lighting is only on when it is (sufficiently) dark, while optional motion sensors in the line enable smart switching on motion. Thanks to Isolectra’s Wieland pluggable coupling cables, the Railpuck light line can also be assembled very easily, quickly and without error.”

At the basis of lighting solution is a driver, which is connected in the feed pit next to the track, Broekhuis explains. “Next, a Railpuck luminaire is fixed in the rail every 3.5 meters, with Isolectra’s Wieland pluggable coupling cables providing the necessary power supply. The system is designed so that lengths of up to 600 meters can easily be achieved.”

Mola Device Connector

During the development phase, Broekhuis visited Isolectra’s Rotterdam office to present the prototype for Railpuck. “Isolectra is the founder of pluggable installation in the Netherlands and I was curious to see what they could do for Railpuck,” he says. “Fortunately I fell head over heels, because at the same time Wieland’s RST16® Mola Device Connector was introduced. Thanks to this connector, pluggable wiring on the inside of a luminaire is also possible, which opened up interesting new opportunities.”

Always fixed

The Mola Device Connector is the modern successor to the crown terminal with screw connection, where the loose wires of the cable still have to be screwed into the terminal. “The Mola Device Connector works instead with clamp connections (push-in terminals) that offer extra security: the cores are always tight!” said Broekhuis. “Loose vibrations as with screws are not an issue. Especially in rail mounting, where vibrations are the order of the day, this is a very valuable feature.”

Easy assembly

An additional advantage of the Mola Device Connector is its easy assembly and possibility for pre-assembly, says Erik van Wijland, Account Manager OEM at Isolectra. “It is mainly the preparation that makes the profit. The Mola Device Connector is pre-connected and plug-and-play in the Railpuck fixtures and connects the lighting’s internal wiring to our connectors. On the outside, our 5-pole waterproof Wieland RST16® connectors and pluggable interconnecting cables can then be connected very easily. Since the cabling is already supplied with connectors included, RAILLIGHTING can work much more efficiently. The risk of connection errors is also greatly reduced. This allows scarce professionals to work even more productively.

Immediately after installation of the Mola Device Connector, the operation of each Railpuck is tested. “Then the fixtures are filled with a special resin, making them 100% waterproof, impact-resistant and sturdy,” Broekhuis says. “The loose components in the fixture are no longer accessible.
