Railway lighting illuminates railway siding, resulting in more safety without light pollution

3

Railpucks have been installed at a new and unique location, namely a railway siding by the Apeldoorn Station. This station is directly downtown, in the center of the city and surrounded by residential neighbourhoods. Having heard about the innovative Railpuck, the contractor decided that it was the perfect solution because of the ease of installation, prevention of light pollution and the speed at which the project could be completed at a competitive price.

More light was needed for safe working conditions

N

The downtown location required a unique solution with mimimal light pollution

N

No heavy construction work could be conducted here at this time

The problem: more light needed with limitations on location, time and budget

The railway siding, part of the train station in Apeldoorn, was not fully lit and this required action. Several issues existed in this location that needed to be addressed.

The railway siding was:

small and therefore required limited intervention

in the middle of a residential area, meaning light pollution had to be avoided

At first the idea was to install new railings where luminaires would be attached. However, they realised this would require some construction work, as well as digging and laying cables. This was not optimal, leading the contractor to RAILLIGHTING.

Railpuck railway lighting solution addresses all issues

We got to work exploring the location and see how and if Railpuck could help their lighting issue. With light measurements we determined that the solution fit perfectly to their needs.

Firstly, Railpuck is fully plug-and-play, meaning installation was done completely by hand without any need for heavy machinery or construction work. This led to much time saved, as it took less than a single night to fully illuminate the railway siding with over 60 luminaires!

Secondly, Railpuck uses a grazing light that is directed at the ground and is shielded to prevent light pollution. This meant that the residents of Apeldoorn would not be hindered or disturbed due to excessive lighting.

Last but not least, the solution was very cost-effective: the required lighting was realized with less costs for construction, materials and downtime.

“The plug-and-play Railpuck lighting solution is very easy to install and use. The lighting of a railway siding with this system is a targeted and effective solution. It is a great product that works well and does exactly what is needed: lighting areas that are not easily improved with traditional railway lighting. It is a simple solution which is exactly what the industry is asking for.”

Safe, cost-effective railway lighting without light pollution

The result is clearly visible: now employees can operate with more safety knowing they have proper workspace lighting. Lighting that reaches crucial work areas and protects employees from potential obstacles and uneven terrain. Thanks to only a single night of installation, workers at Apeldoorn station can work safer with properly lit pathways. The solution will be permanent as the experiences have been overwhelmingly positive.
